Welcome to the SuS blog

Hello all,

welcome to this, the first in, hopefully, a long running series of entries. This blog is born out of my distinct failure to provide e-bulletins for the artists on the current Setting Up Scheme. I believe I now have a mental block against in and however hard I try, I only ever dig up small bits of information at a time. This means there is never enough information for me to send out an all singing and dancing e-bulletin just for the Schemers. The DI e-news goes to about 2000 people and I add to that as I am quite competent at using a CMS these days.

What I am hoping to achieve is that everytime I have a bit of interesting information I can post it on the blog. This also helps me understand how blogs work and in a free way, helps me promote the SuS to potential candidates for the future.

This morning I have found out that the Craft Council are recruiting for the new intake for Next Move - deadline 1 September. Only applies to 2006 graduates, but this might be information that you would like to send on. Also, the Craft Council development award may be something worth looking at for the makers amongst you, once you leave the scheme. Lots more equipment and £2500 of maintenance grant for a year.

I also found a European funding website called www.eurocult.org which provides travel grants to Europe for creatives. Haven't looked at it but could be interesting if you are looking at research trips. Let me know if it is relevant. Also, UKTI's Passport to Export will allow you funding for trips overseas. There will be more information on this on at the Pick & Mix seminar on August 15th at Salford University. More information at www.designint.org.uk.

Better get on with some other work. Feel this may become addictive.

Alex

what a great idea, this could be a great and straight forward way of communicating ideas around the group (and beyond)

I recommend that all go to David Parrish's Facebook site 'T' Shirts and Suits, he is creating a network of 'creatives'
